100% Irish beef: Farmers' charity calendar launches

The annual calendar in aid of Bóthar excels itself this year with feather-dusting farmers and baths in a barrel.

TREAT YOUR TRACTOR well, don’t teach an old sheepdog new tricks and make creative use of a rainwater barrel.

These are just some of the lessons we’ve learned from the new Farmer Calendar, whose 2013 edition has just gone on sale. A quarter of the profits go to the Bóthar charity.

Creator Ciara Ryan said she thought up the idea for the calendar when the recession hit and she was made redundant. “I thought this would be a great idea and a bit of fun! I set about finding our models and placed an ad in the Farmers’ Journal and college agricultural departments. All of our calendar boys are natural models; no make-up, no additives, no preservatives. And the guys were great craic to work with.”

Ian Shipley photographed the farmers – you might recognise his work from the Violent Veg cartoons.

The calendar is available in Easons, the Calendar Club and Reads of Nassau Street as well as online here for €10.
