Here are the top hotels where we could all celebrate our new millions (hey, even a few mill from the Lotto would do, right?)

• Emirates Dubai Armani Hotel

This luxury hotel crafted by designer Giorgio Armani opened in April 2010 in the world’s tallest skyscraper.

Its website says the restaurant experiences are “a personal reflection of Giorgio Armani’s impeccable and timeless sophistication”, which we think means they do good grub.

Even the walls are covered in ‘luxe fabrics’ so there really was no expense spared putting this hotel together.

• Also in Dubai, there’s the seven-star Burj Al Arab, which boasts ‘shimmering opulence’ and ‘the ultimate in Arabian hospitality’.

The 321-metre tall hotel, which looks like a ship’s sail, sits on the edge of the Jumeirah beach and boasts jacuzzis in every suite, a Rolls-Royce fleet, butlers on call, and a private shopper.

You can eat at one of the six award-winning restaurants, take a walk on the exclusive private beach or take a dip at the Wild Wadi Waterpark. Nice.

• Ballyportry Castle

Bring your family to this Irish 15th Century Gaelic Tower House, which is available for private hire only.

The six-floored house has six bedrooms and two bathrooms with showers, a kitchen, turf-burning stove and underfloor heating, as well as a great hall for big dinners.

• Lough Eske Castle

This is the only Irish hotel to claim a World Luxury Hotel Award and sits within 43 acres of forest woodland on the shore of Lough Eske with the Blue Stack Mountains in the background

Why not stay in the presidential suite, which has two ensuite bedrooms and a drawing room with separating doors – totalling just under 2,000 sq ft in size.

You could spend your time lounging in your luxury bathrobes and slippers – provided, naturally, as standard – while sipping on a refreshing drink from the mini-bar.

• Necker Island

Owned by the Virgin group, this island boasts a Great House that sits on top of Devil’s Hill, looking down onto the beach beneath, and six private Bali Houses.

Princess Diana took a trip there with her family in 1990 and it has been the site for many upmarket family holidays.

Necker Island can be booked either exclusively for up to 28 people. Now that’s what we call a celebratory holiday.

• Fregate Island Private

This island bills itself as the ‘original luxury eco-retreat’.

It’s in the Seychelles and has 16 villas and one Presidential Villa, a marina and yacht club, rock spa, a restaurant with island-grown produce, and the chance to dine on the beach.

• Want a rock and roll holiday with a touch of retro delight? Stay at Kate’s Lazy Meadow, which is owned by Kate Pierson of the B52s.

Set in the Castksill Mountains, near Woodstock in new York, Lazy Meadow has cozy rustic cabins with authentic 50s-style kitchens, vintage furniture and more.

There are nine acres of beautiful land surrounding the site plus, as the name suggests, a huge meadow. Perfect for frolicking around in.

• Sala Silvermine Underground suite

This is one for the adventurous – you can sleep 155 metres underground in an underground suite located in the Sala Silvermine in Sweden.

It’s only 2 degrees celsius in the mine all year round, but the room is heated up to 18 degrees.

Staff are on call above ground all night  - and you’re given an intercom radio to communicate with as mobile phones don’t work. Talk about secluded….

• Palazzo Barbarigo

You’ll feel like you’re on a movie set when you step off your gondola on the grand canal and into this luxurious Venetian hotel.

The Art Deco design, palatial settings and modern facilities combine to make it a truly luxurious location. Perfect if you have a few million euro to burn.
