The Achill Island Coast Guard is getting very creative with its Storm Barbara updates

Here’s the tale of Babs and Gail.

IT’S BEEN A year since Teresa Mannion told us to avoid any unnecessary journeys during Storm Desmond, and now, Ireland is being menaced by Storm Barbara.

Met Eireann has issued two national weather warnings for heavy wind and rain, with the north-west of the country due for a real battering.

The Achill Island Coast Guard, which posts daily weather updates on its Facebook page, is getting a bit creative in its approach to Storm Barbara – last night, one volunteer decided to use their update to tell the tale of Babs and her cousin Gail (Force Winds):

They informed their followers that Babs will come bearing ‘gifts’ of “very high winds and lots and lots of rain”, but head off early.

Her cousin Gail, though, she’s the one you’ll really want to get rid of:

She will try her best to match her cousin Barbara but she won’t quite make the mark. (Shade.) Her gifts of wind and rain will be somewhat less than Bab’s efforts.
On Christmas Day, Gail will have lingered with us overnight and remain with us for Christmas dinner and dessert. She will however be called a taxi and sent onward by the time the evening films start.

Jesus Gail. Would you ever head off for yourself?

The report has been greatly enjoyed by the locals, with some saying that it makes the weather sound a lot less scary:
