Argo wins at Golden Globes... and Jodie Foster comes out

Also, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were HILARIOUS.

BEN AFFLECK’S HOSTAGE thriller Argo walked the Golden Globes, winning the high-profile awards for Best Drama and Best Director.

It was also a big night for Les Miserables, which claimed Best Musical or Comedy, Best Actor for Hugh Jackman and Best Supporting Actress for Anne Hathaway.

But the talk of the show was Jodie Foster, who came out – and appeared to announce her retirement – in a rambling acceptance speech for her Cecil B DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler won acclaim for their turn as hosts, delivering a barbed commentary on the assembled celebrities. (Possibly our favourite line: “Look how drunk Glenn Close is.”)

Here’s their opening monologue:

Jodie Foster kicked off her acceptance speech by announcing “I’m 50!” before continuing:

I’m just going to put it out there, loud and proud … I am, uh, single. I hope you’re not disappointed that there won’t be a big coming-out speech tonight. I already did my coming-out about a thousand years ago back in the Stone Age.

She said celebrities are now expected to reveal they’re gay “with a press conference, a fragrance and a prime-time reality show,” adding: “I am not Honey Boo Boo Child.”

Foster also suggested her acting career could be over, announcing:

This feels like the end of one era and the beginning of something else. Scary and exciting, and now what? I may never be up on this stage again, on any stage, for that matter.

But she confused the picture by telling reporters after the show: “I could never stop acting [...] I’m more into it than I’ve ever been.”

Daniel Day-Lewis won the Best Actor award for his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln, with Jessica Chastain claiming Best Actress for Zero Dark Thirty.

On the TV side, Homeland and Girls were crowned Best Drama and Best Comedy respectively.

And Adele won Best Original Song for Skyfall. Check out how many times she said “Oh my God”:
