VIDEO: 6 of the best Axel Foley moments

Beverly Hills Cop is set to return to the small screen. Here are some of the movie’s best bits from the 1980s.

WE’VE WAITED FOR many years but finally it’s here – Beverly Hills Cop is returning to our screens.

Eddie Murphy has agreed to turn the 1980s action-comedy movie into a TV series.

Vulture.com reports that Murphy, who will be the chief-executive producer of the show, has teamed up with Shawn Ryan, creator of the TV show The Shield.

Axel Foley, the bad-ass Detroit cop played by Murphy, was an unconventional police officer who solved a series of murders in the high-class area of Beverly Hills.

Murphy first hinted that he would be open to returning to the Beverly Hills Cop franchise in an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine where he stated:

What I’m trying to do with Beverly Hills Cop now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley’s son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit… None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force this premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn’t be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong

It may be some time before it reaches Irish shores as Murphy is still pitching the show to US TV networks but here are a few of Axel Foley’s best bits just to tide you over until then:

Axel Foley the Beverly Hills building inspector: Perhaps he could come work in the Irish building industry.

Axel Foley checking-in: This is how you blag a free hotel room. Also $235 per night in the Beverly Palm Hotel – the 1980s had some good deals.
