Boring conference turns out to be... not quite so boring

A conference about all-things boring ended up being extremely interesting – and all 400 people in attendance loved the talks on hand dryers and the first 10 years of Which? magazine.

A CONFERENCE THAT was organised in the name of boredom turned out to be not so successful – because it wasn’t really that boring.

In fact, it was so interesting that 400 people bought tickets to attend the Boring conference, which is dedicated to the mundane.

The sell-out London event had a number of events organised, such as speeches from writer Jon Ronson and documentary maker Adam Curtis.

The New Zealand Herald reports there was even a discussion on the evolution of the electric hand dryer – from a man who has his own Dyson handryer in his home.

The Independent quoted founder James Ward as hoping that things will go wrong at the event, which involved more than 20 speakers who spoke for 10 minutes on a subject of interest to them.

It transpired that all went as planned, with The Sun reporting that the 400 in attendance lapped up the talks.

Its website says the Boring conference is “one-day event dedicated to the boring and the mundane, the obvious and the over-looked. Nothing interesting, worthwhile or important will be discussed at Boring.”

The proceedings were captured on film – the New Zealand Herald said it is being filmed by a Canadian documentary team, but there’s no official date of broadcast set as of yet.
