Panic! at the Disco's Brendon Urie on what it means to him to come out as pansexual

‘This is me coming out as pansexual.’

IN A CANDID interview with Paper magazine, Panic! at the Disco frontman, Brendon Urie, fielded a series of questions about his sexuality, and ultimately labelled himself pansexual.

The 31-year-old, who has enjoyed international acclaim since the band came to public prominence in 2005, addressed rumours which surrounded him and his former bandmate, Ryan Ross.

There are still fans that ship us together as a gay couple. It’s adorable. For like the last 13 years they are like “Rydon is real.” I tell them “no” all the time, and they don’t believe me. I’m like, “Good don’t believe me.”

The singer, who has been married to his wife Sarah for five years, then elaborated on his sexuality.

I’m married to a woman and I’m very much in love with her but I’m not opposed to a man because to me, I like a person. I guess you could qualify me as pansexual because I really don’t care.

“I guess this is me coming out as pansexual”, he clarified.

The I Write Sins, Not Tragedies singer explained that coming out as pansexual means that he places less significance on gender, and more emphasis on each individual, and their respective traits.

If a person is great, then a person is great. I just like good people, if your heart’s in the right place. I’m definitely attracted to men. It’s just people that I am attracted to.

While Brendon tells the publication that he has never struggled with his sexuality, he accepts that he has used terms which may have caused offence in the past.

Having labelled drunk interactions with his male friends in the past as ‘barsexual’, Brendon accepts the criticism that was leveled at him.

I would hang out with friends and after five or six beers we’re just kind of like smooching on each other. People just get hammered and fool around.  Barsexual: people get offended by that. I’ve said things without thinking about it — not trying to be offensive. I need to apologise for that.
