In photos: Canine star of The Artist to bow-wow out of show business over illness

Uggie will retire from filmmaking after developing a nervous condition his trainer says causes the dog to shake uncontrollably.

UGGIE THE DOG is set to retire from the big screen following his trainer’s announcement that the hirsute star of The Artist has developed a nervous disorder which causes him to shake.

The Jack Russell was awarded the ‘Palm Dog’ at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and has attended international premieres of the Oscar-nominated silent film The Artist, as well as as The Golden Globes awards ceremony.

Uggie’s trainer Omar Von Muller told the Daily Mail that the dog will retire after his appearance at the Oscars later this month due to the undiagnosed illness.
