9 audiobooks narrated by celebrities to go on a nice long walk with

Bliss!

PODCASTS ARE great for short bites of entertainment, but if you really want to sink your teeth into a story, audiobooks are your only man. Here are nine books read by some familiar voices that would be the perfect accompaniment to your weekend rambling.

Meryl starred in the 1986 adaptation of Nora Ephron’s autobiographical novel, which tells the story of the writer’s marriage to (and later divorce from) Watergate journalist Carl Bernstein. So naturally, she’s pretty damn good at reading the book.

3. The End of the Affair by Graham Greene, read by Colin Firth

This classic novel details a love affair between a writer on the cusp of success and a deeply religious married woman – and Colin Firth brings it wonderfully to life.

Can you think of a better way to read Springsteen’s autobiography than having the man himself read it to you? Because we can’t.

5. To The Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf, read by Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman won an Oscar for portraying Woolf in The Hours, so there’s no one more qualified to read the author’s classic examination of the ins and outs of family life.

6. The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher, read by Carrie Fisher

This will be a bit of a sad one, we will give you that. But no one delivers Carrie Fisher’s humour like Carrie Fisher. Her daughter, Billie Lourd, also chimes in from time to time, making it extra bittersweet.

7. Call Me By Your Name by André Aciman, read by Armie Hammer

This romantic novel was recently adapted into a critically acclaimed film, and its star Armie Hammer recorded an audiobook to go along with the release. Just… read this list of descriptions of his voice, and be convinced.

If you haven’t already read the novel or seen the TV show, why not listen to it? Claire Danes brings the Carrie Mathison intensity required of this dystopian tale.
