Storm Emma stopped this couple getting to the registry office, so they built a snow chapel instead

If only we all had neighbours like this.

A LOT OF us were confined to indoors over the past few days. With Storm Emma and The Beast from the East in full force, everyday life was cancelled.

But what if you had an event planned that wasn’t just ‘everyday life’? What if it was supposed to be your wedding day?

John Phelan and Bernadette Doherty were due to be officially married in Naas registry office on Friday, March 2.

It was, understandably, cancelled. But their neighbour Katie Hand wasn’t about to let the day go by unmarked.

John and Katie’s husband Will built a snow chapel in the back garden and invited all the neighbours around for a hen party, a ceremony, and a wedding feast

The scene looked WAY more romantic than a registry office

They had rings, candles, a congregation, and all the bubbly you’d ever need.

Katie said it was a great evening:

Ah we had the craic building the chapel and planning a wedding. The guests were all dolled up!

The couple are officially marrying in Dubrovnik in September, but their legal wedding was due to be celebrated on Friday.

The happy couple are now on a mini-moon in Munich, and were thankfully able to catch their flight out yesterday.

Katie tells us that John dug the car out of the estate at 3am yesterday morning so they could get to airport. He never stops!

But they made it, beers in hand, after a successful snow wedding

Now that’s dedication. Congrats to the cold, but happy, couple.
