Ed Sheeran donated a signed guitar in order to help terminally ill 11-year-old

Melody’s parents are trying to raise £50,000.

THE PARENTS OF a terminally ill child have thanked Ed Sheeran for presenting them with a guitar as they face into a £50,000 legal battle with King’s College Hospital in London.

Karina and Nigel Driscoll, whose daughter Melody lives with Rett Syndrome, are in dispute with the hospital over the latter’s decision to withdraw their child’s medication on the grounds that it could cause liver damage.

Melody’s parents argue that the decision has left their daughter in considerable pain, and are seeking to contest the decision.

Karina and Nigel said they were overwhelmed by Ed’s gesture, and consider it a testament to the friendship their 11-year-old daughter has formed with the singer since their first meeting in November 2016.

Speaking to The Independent, Karina said: “It was overwhelming.”

For him to reach out and offer to help us raise money to make sure she has the best quality of life we can give her is an absolutely amazing gesture.

This isn’t the first time Melody, who has underdone 40 operations in her life, has received a grand gesture from the singer, having experienced a one-on-one concert in May of last year.

Commenting on the family’s relationship with the Shape of You singer, Karina and Nigel say it’s born of a mutual respect between Ed and their daughter.

We have made sure not to ask him for anything, we do not want their relationship to be about that, it is about Ed and Melody. From the moment he met her he has never treated Melody any differently, that is why we really respect him.

Melody’s parents have been sharing her journey on Facebook, and have been inundated with messages of support since their legal battle became public.
