THE DUBLIN TOY Fair is kicking off at the RDS this Wednesday, and the guest of honour has been announced. It is, none other than Barbie!
Now, listen, we’re as confused as you are regarding how a doll will be ‘meeting and greeting her fans live and in person’ at the event on Saturday, but there is no questioning that she is the perfect guest.
Everyone knows her, and most people love her, however, there are still some pieces of information that might come as a surprise to you.

1. Barbie’s full name is Barbie Millicent Roberts.
You might have known about the Roberts bit, but Millicent? Who knew?
2. She’s from Wisconsin in the US.
It’s not a state that’s really known for its glamour.
3. She has had more than fifty pets.
We can’t help but think that seems a little irresponsible.
4. She has had more than 80 careers.
They include working as a fashion model, becoming an Olympic athlete, some time spent as an astronaut and of course working as a paleontologist.
We heard her parents really wish she would just ‘pick something and stick to it’.
5. She has run for president twice.
6. She and Ken are no longer an item.
This may have passed you by, but they actually split up in 2004 after 43 years together. Sad times.
Rumour has it he’s big in Japan these days.
