THE MAKERS OF Game Of Thrones have been forced to apologise after it emerged that the severed head of former US president George W Bush was used as a prop in the hit HBO series.
The head, disguised with a wig of bushy hair, appeared displayed on a stake in a beheading scene.
It passed unnoticed until the show’s creators David Benioff and DB Weiss pointed it out in the DVD commentary. According to io9, they said:
The last head on the left is George Bush. George Bush’s head appears in a couple of beheading scenes. It’s not a choice, it’s not a political statement. We just had to use whatever head we had around.
The commentary was posted on Reddit and quickly gained traction. Chairman of the Brooklyn branch of the Republican Party, Craig Eaton, has called for a boycott of the series over the gaffe.
“Americans of all political persuasions should stand up and demand that things like this should not continue,” he told Mail Online.
HBO have pledged to remove the shot from any future DVDs. In a statement reported by Deadline, the channel said:
We were deeply dismayed to see this and find it unacceptable, disrespectful and in very bad taste. We made this clear to the executive producers of the series who apologised immediately for this inadvertent careless mistake.
Game Of Thrones creators Benioff and Weiss also apologised, saying they “meant no disrespect” to the former president. They said they “could not afford” to have all the show’s prosthetic body parts made from scratch, “so we rent them in bulk”.
