GAVIN & STACEY may have been nominated for, and indeed scooped, numerous comedy awards during its three-year run on the BBC, but as die-hard fans will know, the show provided just as many tearjerker moments as laugh-out-loud scenarios.
Given the complexity of the relationships at the heart of the series, the programme, which aired between 2007 and 2010, lent itself to numerous moments of genuine emotion.
And we’re getting seriously choked up just thinking about them.
We mean, when a show regularly has us weak with laughter, the touching moments are made all the more poignant.

1. Nessa and Smithy’s kiss after Nessa gives birth.
To the sound of Coldplay’s Gravity, a frantic Gavin and Smithy arrive at the hospital, desperate to see Nessa before the arrival of baby Neil.
Unfortunately for Smithy, he missed the child’s delivery, but the tender moment that followed between himself and the mother of his child was enough for everyone who shipped the unlikely pairing.
2. Uncle Bryn reading a letter from Stacey’s dad before her wedding.
If Uncle Bryn wanted Stacey in absolute floods mere moments before she made her way up the aisle, he was going the right way about it.
Unearthing a letter which his late brother – Stacey’s dad – had written to his daughter before passing away, we got an insight into the relationship Stacey shared with her father.
3. Gavin and Stacey’s phone call during the foam party.
Equally miserable during their trial separation, Gavin and Stacey are forced to momentarily put their marital issues on the backburner when coaxed into socialising by their friends and family.
But with little to no interest in his mates’ foam party, Gavin phones Stacey and gets their relationship back on track.
4. The ‘Don’t Marry Him’ moment of Nessa’s wedding.
Who could forget the moment in the series finale when Smithy bursts into Nessa and Dave’s wedding, and prompts her to question the path she’s about to take.
Honest to the last, he admits he doesn’t necessarily want them to get together despite sharing a child, but he knows she’s making a mistake, regardless.
5. Stacey telling Gavin she’s expecting a baby.
After battling fertility issues and the countless hardships that stem from them, the moment Gavin and Stacey realise they’re finally going to become parents is easily one of the most heartwarming of the three series.
