Man gets brilliant revenge on Gumtree fraudster by texting him entire works of Shakespeare

Inspired.

A MAN WHO got ripped off while trying to buy a games console online has taken a brutal revenge – by texting the seller the entire printed works of William Shakespeare.

Graphic designer Edd Joseph, 24, tried to buy a Playstation 3 on Gumtree. He paid over £80 by bank transfer, but the seller never delivered the console.

However, he had the vendor’s phone number. So he pasted the entire works of Shakespeare – some 835,997 words – into text messages and sent them, the Western Daily Press reports.

It only took one click per play, but the seller receives the messages in 160-character chunks. Joseph estimates that it will take 29,305 texts in total, day and night, for several days.

He told the Telegraph:

It just occurred to me you can copy and paste things from the internet and into a text message. It got me thinking, ‘what can I sent to him’ which turned to ‘what is a really long book’, which ended with me sending him Macbeth.

Joseph, from Bristol, has an unlimited-texts contract so the messages cost him nothing. He first tried contacting the police and Gumtree, but got nowhere as the site said bank transfers were against their terms and conditions.

However, his revenge seems to be having an effect. Joseph told the Mail:

Recently he has taken to calling me and giving me abuse on the phone. I tried to ask him if he was enjoying the plays, but he was very confused.
