Macauley Culkin in the classic Christmas movie Home Alone
Home Alone House

Home Alone house sells for $1.58m

The Home Alone mansion sells for well under the asking price.

THE HOME ALONE house that was featured extensively in the 1990 comedy has been sold for nearly $1m below the asking price.

The Chicago property was the backdrop for the Christmas movie where actor Macauley Culkin was accidentally left behind when his family flew off on their holiday. The then eight- year-old Culkin defends his household from the “wet bandits”  - a set of dumb burglars who attempt to burgle  his house.

The Chicago Sun- Times reports that the Georgian house in Winnetka sold last Thursday for $1.585 million. The owners,  John and Cynthia Abendshien, who had owned it since the late ’80s had an asking price of $2.4 million.  The house which had been on the market since last May has 14 rooms, including four bedrooms.

The late John Hughes, who wrote the script wanted to use the house for the movie and set up film crews on the half acre site for over 6 months.

The Guardian reports that the estate agents describes the house as “a beautiful home with a lot of space and a warm feel”.
