Roberts Blossom as Old Man Marley
sad news

Home Alone's 'old man Marley' dies

The actor, who starred with Macauley Culkin in the hit comedy Home Alone, has passed away at the age of 87.

HIS WIZENED CHARACTER both scared and touched people in the hugely successful 90s film Home Alone – but sadly the actor who played old man Marley has died.

KTLA TV reports that Roberts Blossom, who was 87 years old, died at a nursing home in Santa Monica on 8 July.

He was born in 1924 and starred in a number of films , including Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Escape From Alcatraz.

He initially wanted to be a therapist but soon went into acting, with his career really taking off once he hit his late forties.

Blossom is probably best known for his role of old man Marley in the family comedy Home Alone, playing a mysterious neighbour who frightened Macauley Culkin’s character Kevin McCallister.

The character of Marley didn’t exist in the original screen play and developed after the film went into production. The tale of how Marley reunited with his daughter added an emotional touch to the fun film.
