AS STORM OPHELIA approached Ireland just over a week ago, Peter McVerry Trust – the national homeless charity – issued a request to the public:

If you come across a person sleeping rough in Dublin please advise that individual to go to the nearest Peter McVerry Trust service or call our head office on 01 823 0776.

The work done across the board the day the storm hit saw mini buses bring homeless people to 200 emergency beds in Dublin, and PMV Trust called it a “huge effort to protect the vulnerable”.

Their work hasn’t gone by unnoticed, and yesterday they received a lovely letter from a young admirer

“We were delighted to receive such a heart-warming message from seven-year-old Megan”

Both lovely and a little heartbreaking, given the sense of helplessness.

Megan wrote:

Thank you for taking care of the homeless people at the hurricane Ophelia. Because I get really sad about them because they have no money and food and a home. At the hurricane I felt very helpless! I am 7 years old my name is Megan.

And she included a drawing too

A nice letter for the PMV Trust to receive following a busy couple of weeks, and it’s certainly not just Megan who appreciates all that they do.
