OVER THE LAST half a century, the Dublin landscape has been radically altered – the guinea pig of one economic boom and at least two recessions.
This year, freelance photographer Paul Walsh set out to document exactly how the capital has changed in the last five decades. Using a collection of photographs taken in 1961, he captured the view from exactly the same spot 50 years on. Together, the images are an insight into exactly how Dublin has grown and developed.
Nelson’s column has joined numerous cigarette adverts in the dustbin of history; we see the arrival of the Spire, the Liffey Boardwalk, and a lot of traffic lights. Perhaps surprisingly, the city has also gained quite a few trees.
