THERE ARE SOME songs that Irish people just love. Maniac 2000, Wagon Wheel and Jump Around to name but a few.
But there’s one song that Irish people have a deep emotional connection to and that, my friends, is Mr. Brightside by The Killers
If you’ve ever been in a pub or club where Mr. Brightside has started playing, then you’ll know what we’re talking about.
Fun fact: Mr. Brightside was released in 2004… and it’s still in the charts.
Last week, it was no. 92 in the Irish Top 100.
In the UK, meanwhile, Mr. Brightside has charted inside the Top 100 every year since 2007. It’s currently sitting pretty at no. 89.
And when we say Irish people love it, we mean they love it.
There’s just something about it that says, “Those emotions you’ve been suppressing for the last 20 years? Let them out. Let them all out. And take off your shirt while you’re at it.”
Cue absolute scenes in pubs whenever it’s played.

It’s worth noting that it’s incredibly easy to sing
It’s pretty much the same note throughout meaning that it is extremely easy for drunk people to just sort of roar along to it.

This year it’s had a bit of a ~moment~ in Ireland
For one thing, a video featuring locals in Killorglin, Co. Kerry, absolutely belting it out in tribute to their friend who passed away went insanely viral earlier this year.

It was also performed by hordes of Irish football supporters at Euro 2016 earlier this summer, thus solidifying its status as a Banger Beloved By Irish People
