Jeremy McConnell walks out of an 18 week prison sentence after just 34 days... it's The Dredge

Some more festive celeb dirt.

EVERY WEEKDAY MORNING, DailyEdge.ie rounds up the best of the day’s celebrity dirt from the top to the very bottom.

Stephanie Davis is reportedly ‘extremely upset’ after ex Jeremy McConnell walks free from jail after just 34 days of an 18 week sentence.

In August, McConnell was found guilty of assaulting Stephanie Davis as she held their child. McConnell laughed at Stephanie crying in court and the Judge had to order a break in proceedings. The Irish reality TV star received a suspended sentence and arrived home to Dublin airport where his friends met him with signs that said he’d be doing his community service at The Wright Venue.

Jeremy failed to show up to eight of the work appointments he was supposed to commit to in order to avoid time behind bars. He was then sentenced to 18 weeks in prison, after failing to complete his 200 hours of community service.

Stephanie Davis has since removed herself from the public eye, but sources close to her say “she’s extremely upset at the decision” because she had managed to “get herself back on her feet and she’s been doing really well”, but this news has “knocked the wind out of her sails.”

After serving just 34 days in prison, Jeremy treated himself to a tattoo of his prison number. (Mirror)

The Israeli ambassador to New Zealand has hit out at Lorde for cancelling her Tel Aviv concert for ethical reasons.

Last week, fans in Palestine urged Lorde not to play an upcoming gig in Israel. Jewish fan Justine Sachs and her Palestinian friend Nadia Abu-Shanab wrote an open letter to the singer, highlighting the ongoing tension between Israel and Palestine.

Millions of people stand opposed to the Israeli government’s policies of oppression, ethnic cleansing, human rights violations, occupation and apartheid. As part of this struggle, we believe that an economic, intellectual and artistic boycott is an effective way of speaking out against these crimes.

Lorde then cancelled her show, joining artists the list of artists including Gorillaz, Lauryn Hill and Elvis Costello who have boycotted Israel.

She announced:

I have had a lot of discussions with people holding many views, and I think the right decision at this time is to cancel the show. I’m not too proud to admit I didn’t make the right call on this one.

The Israeli ambassador in Lorde’s native country, New Zealand, demanded a meeting with the singer to attempt to reverse her decision.

“It is regrettable that you have cancelled your concert in Tel Aviv and have disappointed all your fans in Israel.”

The Ambassador, Itzhak Gerberg, then warned the singer that “boycott and hate” represent “hostility and intolerance” and referred to Palestinians calling for a boycott as a “small fanatic group.” It does not appear as though Lorde has taken him up on his offer for a meeting. (Metro)

Meghan Markle had been shortlisted for a role in the 25th James Bond movie until her engagement brought her career to an end.

Producers of the upcoming Bond movie were on the search for a ‘glamorous rising star’ in either Canada or the US, according to a source close to production of the movie.

They had narrowed the list to Meghan and four other actresses, but once the engagement news broke, her name was swiftly crossed off the list. If you caught Spectre on RTÉ on Christmas afternoon, you can probably safely say that she’s not going to feel too bad about missing out on this opportunity. (Metro)

Markle’s family have also responded furiously to Harry’s suggestion that the royals were the family that the actress “never had”. Markle’s half-sister Samantha Grant said “She has a larger family who were always there with her and for her. Our dad is amazing and completely self-sacrificing.” (E!Online)
