THE FACE OF Jesus is a versatile thing. It’s been found in drying socks, on the side of a Chinese takeaway, and on a breakfast taco.

And now Christ has taken to a tree stump.

Belfast man Sean Osborne thoughtfully filmed the phenomenon at Belfast City Cemetery, on the grave of a woman named Rebecca Steven.

He told UTV that “being a sceptic” he had tried to scrub the image off, but to no avail, adding: “If someone has painted it on, they’ve done a really good job and kept quiet.”

Irish tree stumps have some form in terms of the Holy Family. Hundreds of devotees visited a Rathkeale churchyard after some said they saw the image of the Virgin Mary in the remains of a tree. RTÉ reported that thousands signed a petition to keep the stump.
