A tearful Jimmy Kimmel opened his show with a heartfelt plea for stricter gun control in the US

He struggled to maintain his composure.

On Wednesday, the United States bore witness to yet another mass shooting when a teenage gunman opened fire at a high school in Parkland, Florida.

The suspect, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, killed 17 students at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, and left dozens more fighting for their lives.

The incident marks the 18th shooting of 2018, and as various sections of American society called on congress to tighten gun control, Jimmy Kimmel addressed Donald Trump’s speech in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Visibly emotional, the 50-year-old host dissected the words of condolence the President made in the hours that followed the shooting, and tearfully highlighted the incongruity of his message.

Tell your buddies in congress, all the family men who care so much about their communities, what we need are laws – real laws – that do everything possible to keep assault rifles out of the hands of people who shoot our kids. Go on TV and tell them to do that.

While Trump insisted he would do anything he could to help grieving families, Jimmy pointed out the insincerity of the claim given the President’s reluctance to tighten gun control.

What we need, and what you can do to ease our pain and prevent future pain, is something. Somewhere along the line these guys forgot they work for us, not the NRA.
And this time we’re not going to allow you to bow your head in prayer for two weeks until you get an all-clear and can move onto the next thing.

To the sound of rapturous applause, Jimmy concluded his monologue by revealing he was ‘very, very, very tired’ of hearing politicians attempt to side-step the issue of gun control by accusing those keen to discuss it of insensitivity in the aftermath of a national tragedy.

Take a look at this…
