WE’VE ALREADY HAD a good snigger at this in The Dredge, but it really does deserve more attention.
Kate Winslet has married a man called Ned RockNRoll. He changed his name by deed poll a few years back, so he decided that that was what he wanted to be called. Nobody else.
So, what else do we know about this Mr RockNRoll?
- He’s Richard Branson’s nephew and works for Virgin Galactic
- His real name is Abel Smith. Doesn’t quite have the same ring as Ned RockNRoll
- He was previously married to super-rich heiress Eliza Pearson, who’s the daughter of Viscount Cowdray
- Ned is said to have changed his name because he thought that people “take themselves too seriously”
- Ned and Kate met on Richard Branson’s Necker Island, at the same time that she helped save Branson’s mother from a burning building. You couldn’t make this up
- His name is Ned RockNRoll
According to reports (Daily Mail, New York Daily News) Winslet was given away at the wedding in New York by Leonardo DiCaprio. Her two children and a select group of friends and family were also present.
This is Winslet’s third marriage. She previously wed Sam Mendes and Jim Threapleton.
