Katy Perry says she would like to re-write I Kissed a Girl, and we're all ears

She’s not down with the stereotypes.

HARD AND ALL as it is to believe, it’s been ten years since Katy Perry burst onto the music scene with her debut single ‘I Kissed a Girl’.

And in the decade that has followed the track’s release, Katy has recognised the stereotypes hidden among the lyrics of a song which remained at the top of the charts for five weeks in August 2008.

Speaking to Glamour  recently, the 33-year-old revealed her own misgivings when it came to her debut single.

Lyrically, it has a couple of stereotypes on it. Your mind changes so much in 10 years, and you grow so much. What’s true for you can evolve.

With the benefit of hindsight, the singer, who penned the track alongside Max Martin and Dr. Luke, concluded she would reframe the song marginally to more accurately reflect societal changes.

If I had to write that song again, I probably would make an edit on it. We’ve really changed, conversationally, in the past 10 years. We’ve come a long way. Bisexuality wasn’t as talked about back then, or any type of fluidity.

Twitter has responded to Katy’s remarks, with many social media users praising her retrospection.

And just in case anyone needs reminding of the track we were all humming ten years ago…
