Man arrested after major fire in Newbridge that destroyed a line of houses

Nobody was injured in the fire.

kmfm radio A line of houses have been either partially or completely destroyed.

A MAN HAS been arrested in connection with a major fire in Co. Kildare that destroyed six family homes.

At least six houses in the Millfield Manor Estate in Newbridge were either partially or completely gutted by the fire which started at about 4pm.

Fire crews in Kildare spent the evening battling the fire which has now been brought under control. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Gardaí say they have now arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with the fire. He is being held at Newbridge Garda Station.

All occupants of the properties have been accounted for and the scene is now preserved for a technical examination.

Fire engines, ambulances and a number of garda units were all at the scene this evening and smoke was visible throughout the entire area.
