One Direction’s Liam Payne has denied he is homophobic. The singer was introducing a song at one of the band’s concerts and reportedly said…

This is my favorite song off the last album, and it is about trying to find that number one woman of your life, which none of you can relate to, ’cause most of you are girls. Except for the boys in here, you know what I’m talking about.

But it seems that the relatively innocuous comment was taken up the wrong way and Payne was accused of being homophobic.

Last night, he addressed the furore in a Twitter rant.

He added, “So annoying trying your hardest to make people happy in a show and you think about all the notes u tried to hit higher or a little sweeter.”

And all some people want to concentrate on was a throw away statement about a song that I love.

In fact, he seemed genuinely flummoxed by the whole thing.

He ended by saying that making people smile is his “job role”.

Taylor Swift spoke about cancer at her Arizona gig on Monday night. The singer performed the song Ronan, a song inspired by a blog post written by a mother who lost her 4-year-old son to cancer, and spoke about the disease.

There’s a woman here tonight named Maya Thompson. And she has lived in this area and brought her kids up in this area. And I wouldn’t know half as much as I know about childhood cancer and childhood cancer research if she hadn’t shared her story about her son Ronan.

The singer welled up as she acknowledged reading the blog and made reference to how cancer has personally affected her family. (Swift’s mother was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.)

And in it was this account of what it’s like to watch cancer take over your life. And since then, I’ve had cancer hit really close to me in my family.

Thompson later took to Instagram to thank Swift for the gesture.
