Missing Wicklow snowman: Some new leads

Snowy has been missing since Monday. There is a massive appeal for his safe return.

THE FRANTIC SEARCH for a missing giant snowman continues in Wicklow town today, as evidence builds as to his whereabouts.

Snowy, who stands at 60ft when inflated, went missing in the early hours of Monday morning from his perch on top of a shop in Fitzwilliam Square in the town, and search teams scrambled into action.

Martina Robinson, the president of the Chamber told TheJournal.ie about the latest developments in the case.

Toy Show bound?

Robinson said that there have been several sightings of Snowy in several locations, but that none have been confirmed. She also said that she’s heard a rumour that he may be on his way to Donnybrook for tomorrow night’s Late Late Toy Show, but again, this is unsubstantiated.

What the Chamber does know is that it’s likely that Snowy has been the victim of the weather, rather than callous thieves. The night he went missing was particularly windy and Robinson said that it does appear that his straps may have snapped, rather than been cut.

A number of construction firms have been working in the town so it’s thought that maybe a good Samaritan took Snowy under their wing when he fell foul of the weather. An eye witness reported seeing a “hand flopping in the wind” prior to the snowman’s disappearance, indicating that he was feeling a little deflated.

Bring him home

Martina Robinson has said that the incident has captured the imagination of the children in the town, and said that it’s imperative that Snowy is returned to his rightful place.

The inflatable snowman cost almost €3,000 and came from an Irish company in Wexford called Bui Bolg. It’s hoped that when he does return some quick repairs can restore him to his former glory.
