MARTYN HETT FROM Manchester is in line for Son of the Year after getting his mother’s knitting career get off ground, all thanks to Twitter.
A couple of weeks ago, Hett’s mother Figen had a stall at a craft fair – he texted her to see how it was going, and she said she was sad she hadn’t sold anything yet.
Hett tweeted a picture of his mother’s stall, saying his heart was ‘breaking’ for her, and resolved to help her out.
He found out his mother had set up her own account on the retail app Depop, so he shared the page on Twitter – and a few minutes later, a friend of his said he’d like to buy something.
Then more people started buying things. Then even more:

Figen set up a Twitter account to keep up with her viral fame and the rising orders – Hett told Buzzfeed that the whole thing has done wonders for her confidence:
I popped over at the weekend to have lunch with her and she’d restocked her materials. She’s had loads of messages from people just telling her how nice her stuff is, which was nice for her because I think the craft fair had knocked her confidence a bit.
At the moment, everything on Figen’s Depop site, from Christmas decorations to teddy bears, is sold out. But she’s assuring her fans that she’s hard at work on new stock:
