THE CREATOR OF the marriage equality mural on George’s Street – which has started to fall down after last night’s rain – has said that he expected that the elements would take their toll.
Heavy rain and winds in Dublin last night mean that the ‘Cladagh Embrace’ mural, which depicts two men hugging, is in a state of disrepair.

Artist Joe Caslin told DailyEdge.ie that he “knew it was going to happen”.
He also said that the timing was somewhat interesting and he learned today that the planning authorities decided that the mural was in breach of no law.
Despite complaints about the piece, the council found that that mural fell within the remit of ‘referendum campaign material’ .
The large artwork was applied to the side of a building on the corner of George’s Street and Dame Street several weeks ago. Caslin said that they were careful with the materials used:
We were working on an historic building. The type of glue was a very light, non-acrylic glue; it’s actually made from potatoes.
Caslin is celebrating the fact that “we got a great few weeks out of it” and said that plans to erect a ‘girl version’ somewhere in the country are underway – location to be revealed.
