Electric Picnic

Not at the ‘Picnic? Nine videos to cheer you up

Missing Electric Picnic? We’ve hand picked nine videos to help you pretend you’re there. But minus the mud, sunburn and lukewarm drinks.

NOT AT THE ELECTRIC Picnic festival in Stradbally this weekend?

Well, no need to worry. Just grab your favourite pair of wellies and pitch a tent out your back garden, because we’re bringing a taster of the festival to you.

These nine videos might not be the exact same as spending a weekend in a field with your mates, but at least this way you won’t get covered in mud.

  • Donal Dineen – Arbutus Yarns live in 2009

Today FM presenter Dineen’s new band, Parish, play the Mainstage at 2.45m on Saturday. Here he is in action at Electric Picnic back in 2009, as filmed by Arbutus Yarns.

  • Marlena Shaw talks music

Marlena Shaw got soulful at last year’s Electric Picnic – here she is chatting about touring and why modern radio stations are terrible.

  • Heathers live in studio

Here are the Heathers sisters (and cellist) being interviewed on 2FM by Dave Fanning – and performing a live track.

  • Foo Fighters get covered

The real deal aren’t playing this year, but we love this young duo’s cover of the Foos’ Everlong. Someone book them for next year’s festival, yeah?

  • Goodtime does M Ward

In preparation for this year’s Electric Picnic, Cock and Bull TV got some Irish bands to come into studio and perform covers by their favourite Electric Picnic artists. Here’s Goodtime doing his version of M Ward’s song Undertaker. Beautiful.  Goodtime plays Sunday at the Body and Soul Main stage, 3pm; M. Ward plays Friday, Crawdaddy Stage at 9.20pm.

  • Janelle Monae in a Wonderland

Another Arbutus Yarns video, this showcases the amazing Janelle Monae’s performance of Wonderland at the Body & Soul Arena last year.

  • Hypnotic Brass Ensemble at the Body & Soul Arena

Sure, the quality might not be slick but the sounds, as always, are amazing.

  • Incest and Bestiality

The Electric Picnic isn’t just about music – here’s scientist Aoife McLysaght giving a talk in Ignite in the Mindfield area last year on… incest and bestiality.

  • Lisa Hannigan chats

Irish Times journalist Jim Carroll talks to musician Lisa Hannigan about pies, raving, and being mistaken for a vegetarian.

And whether you are heading to the Electric Picnic or not, let us know – what is your favourite EP memory?
