WITH RISING TAXES on products like wine, there is no doubt that people are fully aware of the fact that the money they spend on a bottle doesn’t all go towards what they actually pour into a glass.
However, you may be surprised to learn that according to the Irish Wine Association, just 52 cent of an €8 bottle of wine goes toward the wine itself. The rest is on packaging and distribution, and tax.
Clearly, the more money you spend, the more actual wine you’re buying, but the proportions are a little upsetting when you see them set out as they are above.
