Who's Watching it?

Half of everyone watching TV on Tuesday night tuned in to the Rose of Tralee

Four out of ten people watching via online stream were following the show from abroad.

THE SECOND NIGHT of the Rose of Tralee event in Co Kerry was watched by almost 1.7 million viewers, according to new figures from RTÉ.

Half of all those watching television in Ireland at the time of the show’s broadcast on Tuesday evening were watching the Rose of Tralee.

The event was streamed live and is still available on demand on the RTÉ Player, with a total of 62,200 streams recorded so far (28,049 of which were during the live broadcasts on the two nights of the competition).

Four out of ten of the online streams were viewed outside of Ireland, with the highest demand coming from the UK, US and Canada.

RTÉ’s executive producer for this year’s Rose of Tralee show Michael Kealy described the viewing figures as “fantastic”.

A share of 50% for the second night means 1 in 2 people in Ireland watching television at that time tuned in to The Rose of Tralee. Ever the professional, Dáithí Ó Sé’s energetic personality made the live event much more fun for the Roses! I wish the newly-crowned Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh all the best in future.

Dáithí Ó Sé said he found the atmosphere in Tralee “electric” in the lead-up to the show.

“I’m delighted for this Year’s Rose Maria. Her wonderful and unique personality really shone through during the week and also on stage,” he said. “She will be a great ambassador for the Rose of Tralee.”
