MANCHESTER UNITED HAVE appointed Ryan Giggs as interim manager as they launch the hunt for David Moyes’ successor.
The decision to sack Moyes this morning, with four games still to play in a disastrous Premier League season, will buy United some time as they look to get the appointment right at the second time of asking.
Giggs is a 6/1 shot to permanently replace Moyes, who was hailed as “the Chosen One” when he succeeded Alex Ferguson but lasted just 11 months in the job.
A United statement read: “Following the departure of David Moyes as manager, Manchester United has announced that Ryan Giggs, the club’s most decorated player, will assume responsibility for the first team until a permanent appointment can be made.
“The club will make no further comment on this process until it is concluded.”
Louis van Gaal is the bookies’ early favourite for a move to Old Trafford. The former Ajax and Barcelona coach will leave the Dutch national side after the World Cup and has already been linked with a number of Premier League suitors.
But Jurgen Klopp appears to be out of the running after he re-affirmed his commitment to Borussia Dortmund when contacted by the Guardian this morning.
