The story behind this Orange is the New Black wedding has charmed everyone on the internet

Love is real and here’s proof.

IF YOU EVER watched Orange is the New Black, then chances are you’re a fan of Samira Wiley, better known to fans as Poussey.

Over the weekend, it was announced that Wiley had married a writer from Orange is the New Black by the name of Lauren Morelli.

Both ladies wore white and looked only fabulous.

The couple made headlines in 2014 when Morelli penned a poignant essay about coming to terms with her sexuality entitled, “While Writing for Orange is the New Black, I Realised I Am Gay”.

Morelli, who was newly married to her husband when she began working on Orange is the New Black, wrote that her “ life fell into a parallel rhythm with Piper’s story in a way that went from interesting to terrifying in a matter of months”.

I was finally forced to consider a question that had never, ever occurred to me before: Holy s**t, am I gay?

Morelli explained to Out that she had a crush on Wiley from the moment she met her, but only allowed things to develop romantically once she separated from her husband.

I remember walking down the street in New York and finally being able to hold her hand, and how huge that felt. Walking to the date was more romantic and mattered more than wherever we were going or whatever we were about to do. I’m very aware of being visible and how important that is. Even being in a liberal, safe place like New York, holding her hand while walking down the street still feels like a political choice. It had been such a journey to discover my sexuality, and to claim it in this public way was incredible for me.

According to Samira Wiley, their relationship even provided fodder for Orange is the New Black.

I was scared to be the first to say “I love you,” so I did a little pussy version. I said, “I heart you,” which actually ended up in one of Lauren’s Orange scripts. I believe Alex says it to Piper.

Needless to say, their relationship has gone from strength to strength since then with the couple tying the knot and doing their part to help raise visibility of LGBTQ couples.

As Wiley told InStyle last year:

I think that what comes along with my visibility is a responsibility, and I don’t take that lightly. I want to make sure that any young person or anyone really who is looking up to me—who sees a glimpse of who I am as a person—that they see no shame, that they see pride, and that I’m truly unabashed about the person that I am

And people everywhere are only delighted for them.

Did we mention they walked up the aisle to Montell Jordan’s This Is How We Do It? BECAUSE THEY DID.
