BACK IN THE 90s, I displayed more than a passing appreciation of the denim shirt dress.
Teamed with a red polo neck, red tights and a sleek pair of black Doc Martens in winter, or worn with flip-flops and sleeves rolled up in summer, my denim shirt dresses proved their versatility time and time again, regardless of climate.
While remaining loyal to the dress shirt design, I ultimately branched out by relegating the denim look and plumping instead for floral patterns.
As such, you might assume that their return to the high street may have warranted a mini holiday in my mind, but as is often the case with trends you associate with childhood, I shied away from their reinvention after spotting them in shop windows decades later.
Given my above average height, it could be argued that the shirt dress should be a key item in my wardrobe as the design tends to flatter longer bodies, but I resisted the urge to find out… until recently.
