A Tyrone man's brilliant trad version of Shut Up and Dance has exploded on Facebook

IRISH DANCING TEACHER Gerard Carroll lives in Dungannon, Tyrone and last year he started playing the harp in his spare time.

He uploaded his first ever video earlier this month to Facebook – a cover of Walk The Moon’s Shut Up And Dance – and things have got interesting since.

Because it’s being shared all over the shop this week

Taking a pop song, slowing it down and stripping it back to just his voice and the harp – Gerard’s stumbled on to an absolute winner.

It got picked up by Mashable on Friday

Their description of the harp was something else:

The harp is typically associated with chubby naked babies with nauseatingly flawless curls, a skinny bloke wearing tights circa 1300 A.D. or, for the completely cultureless, a mediocre Irish lager.

But they came around to its charms once they listened, and finished with:

Who knew the harp could be so… cool?
