TOTTENHAM AND EVERTON have played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane – bringing Everton back into top half of the table for the first time this season, cementing their recovery after a dreadful start. Leighton Baines opened the scoring with a terrific free kick for the visitors before Rafael van der Vaart capped a flowing team move to equalise for the home side before half-time. The result means Tottenham, who stay third, lose ground on leaders Chelsea and Man City.

The last laugh: Rooney confirms he's leaving United

I’m leaving United to win more trophies – not for money, says a bullish Wayne Rooney this evening

LIVERPOOL MANAGING DIRECTOR Christian Purslow is to quit the post following the £300million sale of the club to New England Sports Ventures (NESV) last week.

Purslow will remain at Anfield as a non-executive director and will act as a special adviser to the new owners.

“I came to lead the club through a sale process to get the best deal including, vitally, removing the debt,” he said this afternoon, “I am immensely proud of what we’ve achieved and look forward to assisting the owners in any way I can.”

Purslow took up the post in summer 2009, replacing Rick Parry, who served as chief executive.

It's done! Liverpool confirms sale to NESV – as old owners seek $1.6bn damages

Tom Hicks and George Gillett withdraw their injunction – but get set to seek a billion-dollar payout in damages.

THE SAGA CONTINUES. It is reported this morning that (current) Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has withdrawn the temporary restraining order granted by a court in Texas that blocks the sale of Liverpool FC. Rather than being a concession, however, it is understood that Hicks is in talks with offload his shares to Mill Financial – the company that has already assumed control of the other half of the club. It seems it’s now a race between NESV and Mill to see who can repay RBS’s loan, which expires today, and grab control. More later. Inevitably.

LIVERPOOL CHAIRMAN Martin Broughton and the Royal Bank of Scotland are to return to the High Court at 2pm to contest the right of the Texan courts to grant an injunction stopping NESV from buying the club. Local media in Liverpool, meanwhile, reports that Mill Financial – which had already assumed control of George Gillett’s half of the club – has now bought Tom Hicks’ share and owns the entirety of the club.
