A bank in Canada is asking Star Trek fans to stop 'Spocking' fivers

There is so much Spocking in spockulation.

WE SADLY LOST Star Trek legend Leonard Nimoy last Friday, but Canadians have found a suitable way to honour him. Bank of Canada have had to ask fans to stop defacing the national currency in tribute to the actor, as an increased amount of ‘spocking’ has hit five dollar notes.

People have been inking the Spock’s features on to five dollar bills, over what is a portrait of former Canadian Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier. There are many variations in circulation, but all resemble the Star Trek human-Vulcan.

Spokeswoman for the Bank of Canada Josianne Menard told The Toronto Sun, that while defacing a bank note isn’t illegal, it still shouldn’t be done.

Writing on a bank note may interfere with the security features and reduces its lifespan. Markings on a note may also prevent it from being accepted in a transaction. Furthermore, the Bank of Canada feels that writing and markings on bank notes are inappropriate as they are a symbol of our country and a source of national pride.

As expected, Canadians gonna do what they want.

There’s a whole Facebook dedicated to Spocking Fives, and the practice has been going on since 2012.
