Quentin Tarantino finally made a statement about the Harvey Weinstein allegations last night.
In an interview released by the New York Times last night, the 54-year-old explained that he had not just encountered rumours and gossip about Weinstein, but knew for a fact that Harvey “did a couple of these things.”
Tarantino went on to ‘call bullshit‘ on the countless male executives, filmmakers and writers who have feigned surprise since the allegations were made public. “Everyone who was close to Harvey had heard of at least one of those incidents. It was impossible that they didn’t.”
The number of individual women making allegations against Weinstein is now above 50. One of the women Tarantino knew Weinstein had behaved inappropriately towards was his ex-girlfriend Mira Sorvino. Mira came to Quentin and explained what Weinstein had done to her, but Quentin brushed it off as an infatuation and persistence that would cease as soon as Weinstein found out Tarantino was dating her.
Aside from this Tarantino disclosed that he was aware of several other episodes including a prominent actress and said that he wishes he had taken responsibility at the time. It’s very easy for him to say to say that now. (New York Times)
Lupita Nyong’o has said that Harvey Weinstein offered to exchange sex for help with her career.
The actress wrote that she “felt sick in the pit of her stomach” after allegations about the producer were made by over 50 women and realised that what happened to her was part of a “sinister pattern of behaviour.”
She described in detail how Weinstein offered her a massage which she did not want and felt that there was no way to decline. To keep control of the situation, the only thing she could think of doing was offering him a massage instead.
She stated that she was desperate to leave the situation and “didn’t know how to proceed without jeopardising [her] future”. When he attempted to have sex with her, she said she was not comfortable and left.
She explained feeling similar to the other women who Harvey preyed on.
I shelved my experience far in the recesses of my mind [...] I had felt very much alone when these things happened, and I had blamed myself for a lot of it, quite like many of the other women who have shared their stories.
I did not know that things could change. I did not know that anybody wanted things to change. So my survival plan was to avoid Harvey and men like him at all costs, and I did not know that I had allies in this.
Chance the Rapper has shared a lovely video of him opening his Grammy awards with his daughter after they arrived in the post.
Amid all of the very distressing news coming out of Hollywood for the last few weeks, Chance the Rapper has shared a video to remind us that there are good things in the world.
The rapper made history earlier this year, by being the first unsigned artist to ever win a Grammy without selling physical copies of his music. As well as that, the unsigned rapper gives away pretty much all of his music for free. He took home three awards – Best New Artist, Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance.
The awards only arrived to his home this week, and he was visibly chuffed. What’s even cuter is that his daughter was completely elated, but like most kids, she was more interested in playing with the boxes.
