Whatever about which lane you should be in, THIS is definitely against the rules of the road... Jeff Moore/Jeff Moore/Empics Entertainment/PA Images
Dilemma

The burning question*: Do you hover on outside lane on dual carriageway?

This and every Monday, let TheJournal.ie distract you from the ‘serious’ news with one of life’s REAL dilemmas. (*not really)

WE KNOW HOW you feel. The week looms ahead – but you will still have a lot on your plate.

So do like we do here in TheJournal.ie HQ and get stuck into a serious debate on one of life’s most pressing questions…

This week… In the comments section of last week’s Burning Question, John O’Mahony threw up another little conundrum. This was what he asked:

Off topic but what about people driving by default on the outside lane on a two lane dual carriageway? I invariably stay in the left lane and find myself overtaking those in the right lane who presumably took it because they thought it would be quicker. Perhaps The Daily Edge should have a poll on it.

So what do you think? Should you…

A. Only use the outside (right-hand) lane on a dual carriageway/motorway for overtaking, or…

B. Should you drive there if you want to?

NOTE: According to Irish road traffic legislation, you must move back to the left lane following an overtake. Remaining in the overtake lane on the right will land you with one penalty point and a €60 fine.

Vote here: Should the outside (right-hand) lane on a dual carriageway be used…

Poll Results:

A - Only for overtaking (3325)
B - As a full lane that you can drive in all the time (380)
C - Can't we all just get along? (208)
