What to watch on TV tonight: Saturday

Here’s the telly that everyone will be talking about tomorrow.

DailyEdge.ie rounds up the TV shows that you’ll be tweeting about tonight and talking about tomorrow.

Taboo (BBC1, 9.15pm)

Tom Hardy (swoon) stars in this new historical drama about an adventurer who returns to London from Africa in 1814 after being presumed dead for years. Why’s he back? To avenge the death of his father, of course! #taboo

Let It Shine (BBC1, 7pm)

Well looky here, it’s another singing competition! Graham Norton and Mel Giedroyc host Gary Barlow’s search for a boyband to perform in a stage show based on Take That’s career. Meta as hell. Barlow’s fellow judges are Dannii Minogue, Martin Kemp, and Glee/West End actress Amber Riley. #letitshine

Goodfellas (TG4, 10.05pm)

There are lots of great films on telly tonight, but we pick Goodfellas because well, it’s Goodfellas. Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta and Joe Pesci star in this Mafia crime caper, directed by Martin Scorsese.

Everybody’s talking about: Taboo

BBC / YouTube

Here’s a bit more information about Tom Hardy’s intriguing drama, which he wrote himself along with his father Edward and Peaky Blinders screenwriter Steven Knight.

It is dark, dark, dark – Hardy told Radio Times that he wanted to channel Hannibal Lecter, Doctor Faustus and Bill Sykes from Oliver Twist in his lead character James Delaney.

He also wanted to go full frontal, but the BBC wouldn’t let him. Spoilsports.
