What to watch on TV tonight: Tuesday

Here are the shows that will be on your Twitter timeline this evening.

DailyEdge.ie rounds up the TV shows that you’ll be tweeting about tonight and talking about tomorrow.

The X Files (RTÉ Two, 9.55pm) Mulder and Scully return to Irish screens tonight, two days after the premiere of their new series reached viewers in the US. Will it be any cop? Will there be aliens? Will they smooch? All questions will be answered.

Tricks of the Restaurant Trade (Channel 4, 8pm) Chicken! Hosts Kate Quilton and Simon Rimmer turn their unflinching eye(s) this week to the chicken business, looking at the realities behind the businesses of KFC and Nandos. Includes how to recreate KFC’s secret recipe! (Basically, we’re hoping for half an hour of lingering shots of fried chicken.)

The Real Marigold Hotel (BBC Two, 9pm) Insane-sounding new reality series in which a number of pensionable British celebrities (most famous: Miriam Margolyes) are literally sent to India and made to set up house together in a crumbling mansion. Could either be awful or reach Black Mirror levels of greatness.

Everyone’s talking about: Is the new X Files any cop?

So the new X Files premiered in the US on Sunday night. But was it any good? Well, the critics were divided. Deadline called it “strikingly serious and silly at the same time”, adding “if you want to believe… this X Files is well worth opening up.” And Entertainment Weekly was also holding out hope. But the Telegraph gave a disappointed two-star review, saying the series’ premise has been outpaced by internet conspiracy nuts. And Forbes called it “much too heavy-handed”.

WE STILL WANT TO BELIEVE.

Or flick over for…

  • Patrick Kielty’s Mulholland Drive (BBC One, 10.45pm) Patrick Kielty goes to LA to find out about the real Mr Mulholland.
  • The Mad World of Donald Trump (Channel 4, 9pm) A quick primer on The Donald in all his pomp.
  • Just Jillian (E!, 9pm) New E! series, meaning that it’s potentially tabloid fodder for the next ten years.
  • Adoption Stories: What Happened Next (TV3, 8.30pm) Another episode of the rather good TV3 show revisiting some Irish adoptees.
  • CBB Live Eviction (TV3, 9pm) You know how we do.
