SAD NEWS FOR fans of one of Dublin’s most idiosyncratic establishments: the famous Dublin 8 corner shop St Kevin’s Mart is closing down after 35 years in business.

Today, @darraghdoyle spotted that the building is up for sale and a message in the window thanking customers for their support.

If you haven’t been there before, this review on Yelp just about sums up the experience:

This shop has absolutely the most insane deals every day. As you walk in you are greeted with an entire shelf of stock which is on special offer. These range from the standars (buy 1 get 1 free) to absolutely baffling (buy one tin of peaches get 3 mars bars free.
Really it is a little adventure everytime you go in.

And there have been some amount of ridiculous bargains seen in there down the years:

1. Like this combination of Toffee Crisp and… trifle sponge

2. It kind of feels like a car boot sale scenario most of the time – where buying in bulk is welcomed

3. They always treat their customers well – like with this gravy return policy

4. Here are two products that really go well together

5. A €10 selfie? Yes, please

6. Even on their own Facebook page, their cover photo is always giving it the hard sell

7. Where else would you find a bottle of wine for €1.30?

8. And what is essentially a bargain designed for pranksters

9. All the essentials in one place – that was St Kevin’s MO

10. Where the “best before” was always an important fact to be considered

“Worst shop?” How DARE you?

St Kevin’s Mart – and especially their creativity – will be sorely missed in Dublin 8.
