What to watch on TV tonight: Friday

Here are the shows that’ll be on your Twitter timeline later.

Every lunchtime, DailyEdge.ie rounds up the TV shows that you’ll be tweeting about tonight and talking about tomorrow.

The Late Late Show (RTÉ One, 9.35pm)

After last week’s jam-packed show (er, remember that interaction with Ryan O’Neal?), Tubridy continues to up the ante with another star-studded couch. Tonight, Ryan will chat to Alan Rickman, Kim Cattrall, Louis Walsh and Callum Best. Expect Louis Walsh to weigh in on poor ol’ Zayn. #latelate

Gogglebox (Channel 4, 9pm)

Our favourite TV commentators return tonight and share their thoughts on Poldark, Trevor McDonald and the blissfully stupid The Royals. *keeps fingers crossed for gratuitous shots of Aidan Turner* #Gogglebox

Alan Carr: Chatty Man (Channel 4, 10pm)

And immediately following Gogglebox, we’re in for a dose of Alan Carr. The chatty man will be talking to Elijah Wood, Michelle Keegan and Warwick Davis. Keep your eyes peeled for Irish act Hudson Taylor, who will also be performing on the show. (You might have seen Niall Horan talking about it.)

Everyone’s talking about… US Netflix

Many Irish people skirt around Netflix’s strict geoblocking by accessing US Netflix through a VPN. However, we might not need to do that for much longer if the EU has anything to do with it.

Yesterday, European Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager explained her frustration with the current geoblocking model, which means that certain channels are unable to be viewed whilst abroad.

We are examining the clauses in their contracts that prevent existing and new subscribers from accessing satellite and online pay-tv when they are outside the area covered by the license.
