Wyclef Jean shot and injured in Haiti

Former presidential hopeful was shot in the hand while in Delmas, Haiti, yesterday.

MUSICIAN WYCLEF JEAN HAS been shot and injured in the hand in Haiti, according to his spokesperson Joe Mignon.

Jean was shot at around 11pm local time yesterday in the city of Delmas, Mignon said, but did not provide any further details of the incident.

Haitian-born Jean travelled to Haiti to support presidential contender and fellow pop star Michel Martelly, who is one of two candidates involved in today’s election run-off.

Wyclef Jean isn’t the only famous face involved in Haitian politics: Hollywood actor Danny Glover has accompanied former president Jean Bertrand Aristide on his return to Haiti after several years in exile in South Africa.

The former Fugees member had himself hoped to contest the election. However, his bid for the presidency was quashed when the country’s electoral council ruled he did not meet residency requirements for candidates:
