Yeats didn't come up in the English exam yesterday and the Leaving Certs are RAGING

Their Leaving Cert hopes are dead and gone; they’re with O’Leary in the grave.

WB YEATS ONCE said: β€œEducation is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” But oh if he only knew the fire he lit under Leaving Certs yesterday.

In the months leading up to the exams, it was predicted that Yeats would turn up on English Paper 2 to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising.

It wasn’t a completely wild guess, but it didn’t work out this time. Yeats did not appear, and the Leaving Certs are going BUCK WILD over it.

Some students searched and searched the exam papers for any tiny hint of Yeats

Others wondered if his non-appearance would be their undoing

But most of them showed a very good knowledge of his poetry

Which makes it all the more tragic.
