YOU’D USUALLY ASSOCIATE the humble Aran jumper with a windy winter’s day, wrapping yourself up in anything you can find on the way to the pub.

But now Vogue has said that Aran jumpers are seriously cool and the fashion world has embraced them with gusto.

Yes, the Aran jumper has hit the catwalks in 2015, with the likes of Michael Kors and Isabel Marant featuring them in their recent collections.

And this month British Vogue had some very nice things to say about the Irish knit:

That deliciously cosy, creamy coloured cable-knitted sweater that whispers good taste – and this season no cold-winter wardrobe should be without one.

Whispers good taste.

And they quote Michael Kors too, who loves himself a good old knit:

When the temperature dips, everyone wants a knit that looks good and feels amazing. The Aran is a lasting  design of beautiful craftsmanship and texture; it’s universally flattering and is incredibly versatile, too; it works well with almost anything.

Then Isabel Marant put them up there with some absolute classic fashion pieces:

There are iconic garments such as blue jeans, the white T-shirt and military jacket that are so well achieved you will never tire of them, and the Aran knit belongs to that category

So now.

Take out that old jumper that’s lying in the back of the hot press – it’s now cool again.
