PSA: Cillian Murphy will be taking the reins on a BBC radio show from March

‘I couldn’t be more chuffed.’

FOR THOSE OF you who may not be aware, Cillian Murphy had his sights set on a music career long before he ever started appearing in films in the late 90s.

And, as such, music still plays an enormous part in his life, which is likely why the BBC considered him a worthy replacement for Guy Garvey who will be taking a break from his 6 Music radio show.

The news that the Cork-native, who has previously presented one-off segments, would be taking the reins was announced earlier today, with Cillian revealing that the appointment marks a big moment, both personally and professionally.

Commenting on the new gig which will kick off on March 3 and run until the summer, the 42-year-old said in a statement:

As a music lover, mixtape obsessive and long-time 6 Music fan I couldn’t be more chuffed to be asked to sit in for Guy on his hiatus.

Giving a rare insight into the life he shared with his wife and two sons, he continued:

His show has been a constant companion for me and my family on Sunday afternoons for many years now, and it will be an honour to pick the tunes in that slot for a while.

“6Music is the best radio station in the world and I look forward to becoming a temporary house guest,” he added.

Cillian’s previous on-air stints have already endeared listeners to him, with many sounding thrilled that he’ll be back in regular rotation.
