ON FRIDAY’S EPISODE of The Graham Norton Show, Graham gave a fellow Cork-man the floor to tell a story of his choice.
So paramedic David, (from Clonakilty, but currently living in London) decided to tell Graham about the time he stole his mother’s car.
So, when I was younger I was a bit of a messer. My mam works in Clonakilty hospital and she was working night duty one night. Myself and my mate, we decided we wanted KC’s chipper, up in Cork. So I took the spare key from my old man’s car keys and we went down, we took the car out, we drove to KC’s, we had our chips and my mam was none the wiser.
David dropped the car off and his mam hadn’t a clue. A couple of weeks later, his mam got some post. It was a speeding ticket and a letter informing her that she would be receiving some penalty points.
She was adamant it wasn’t her because she was working that night. I just kept it up, pretended it was nothing. She ended up getting a fine and penalty points and I was afraid. For years I was trying to make it up to her, I said ‘Once I make it up to her, I can tell her that I did it.’ So, I got her tickets for The Graham Norton Show. There ya go mam.
Graham asked David’s mam if she would like him to be flipped after sharing the story of how he betrayed her, but she was very sweet and told him he was forgiven.
David went on to discuss his appearance on Graham Norton with Cork radio station C103.
Speaking to Patricia Messinger on the Cork Today Show, he retold the story without the pressure that comes with sitting in Graham Norton’s red chair. He didn’t have to worry about Patricia flipping him out of a chair.
David got the Graham Norton tickets last Monday, after weeks of attempting to apply for them in order to surprise her with them for Christmas. Because he offered to tell a story on the famous red chair, his chances of securing tickets were improved.
David didn’t get to meet Graham after the show, but he did get to hang out with will.i.am for a bit.
